Fellow Woodturners:
The Board of Directors of the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild would like to invite you to join us for our annual member appreciation luncheon on December 6, 2025. So that we can tell the caterers how many meals to prepare, we need to have you go to the OVWG website and register. The cut off date for registration is noon on November 26, 2025. We have three menu options for you to choose from and we will provide a selection of drinks.
Last year, we asked attendees to bring a dessert to share with others. Since that seemed to go well, we are asking that you do it again this year. When you register, you will be able to indicate what you are bringing. We ask that you bring cookies, bars (lemon or other fruit bars), or other things that are pre cut and do not have to be dished out - no pies, puddings, or other things that can be messy to handle.
Tables will be decorated to reflect the season. However, this is an area where we can use your help. We invite you to bring turned or other home made ornaments to decorate your table with. Please note that the Guild does not assume any responsibility for these items and it is up to you to make sure you collect them before you go home.
In addition to lunch, other activities are planned as follows:
1. Gift exchange: To participate in the gift exchange, you should bring a turned piece to exchange with another woodturner. This should be an item that you are proud of which shows off your woodturning skills. It should be wrapped or bagged so that it is not visible to others. When you arrive, you will give it to a member of the Luncheon Committee who will give you a numbered ticket. When your number is called, you will be able to select a gift from all that are available at the time. If you don't bring a gift, you don't get one to take home.
2. Show and tell: This is a chance for you to show and talk about your work to other OVWG members and guests. Feel free to bring several pieces.
3. Contest : Our December contest is to Turn a Wig Stand—a project suitable for all members, from beginner to advanced. We’re also supporting cancer patients by donating wig stands as part of our community service effort. Use materials from a 2x6 board to hardwoods, finished or painted, and explore techniques from basic spindle to multi-axis turning. Be creative and show your skill! See the Wig Stand page on our website (Contribute ? Wig Stands) for instructions, dimensions, and examples. Wig Stand kits will be available at the November meeting for members to take home to turn and donate or enter into the contest. (Visit the web page here )
4. Friendly conversation: We encourage you to initiate conversations with other OVWG members and guests. You may find that you have much in common with them.
We realize this is a busy time of the year, but hope that you can find time to join us for the celebration of another good year for the OVWG. We look forward to seeing you on December 6.
