As member of the OVWG you have opportunities throughout the year to see demonstrations and take classes from some of the best woodturners in the country. During the March demonstration meeting, we are privileged to have Dr. Seri Robinson who is an expert on the subject of spalted wood. This is a subject that many of us deal with from time to time due to the woods we turn. So, it is important that we know how to best deal with the subject in a way that is safe to ourselves and others. In addition to her demonstration on May 17, she will be teaching classes on the skew and on turning spalted wood on the 18th and 19th.
My reason for bringing this to your attention is that we are looking for someone to serve as host for Seri during her visit. This will include transportation to and from the airport, travel to and from the Learning Center, lodging, and meals (cost of meals and mileage reimbursed). While this sounds like a lot, I have done it several times (one couple for 9 days) and found to be a very satisfying experience. If you have an extra bedroom that provides reasonable privacy and you are available during this time I ask that you consider this opportunity. I will point out that Seri has allergies to hairy pets, especially cats, so she will need a space that doesn't expose her to these allergens.
Thanks for your consideration. Your membership in the Guild gives you many benefits that you can enjoy in a variety of ways. This is a chance for you to give something back.
Sincerely,
Jerry Warner
Past President
P.S. If you are willing to serve as a host, but are not able to do so at this time please let me know that also.
