One of our members has moved to a new shop.
For all of you that may have known her, Pat Keeler has departed this earth.
The following was received from David Morrical:
I have been asked to make a few comments about an Honorary Lifetime Member of OVWG, Joe Keeler, whose wife recently passed away. Joe spent many years taking care of his wife at home. Joe is a retired secretary of OVWG and has been a member from probably 1993. Joe moved back to Cincinnati and came to us after serving as president of the West Virginia woodturning club.
Joe became secretary and was instrumental in organizing the OVWG following the guidelines of the AAW and the rules of the IRS which granted us the 501-C3 designation and allowed us to be tax free, which, of course, has been very good for the club. We had to consult with lawyers for the organizing and drawing up our Constitution. We were a small club back then, as was the AAW, just trying to find our way. Joe was very helpful with all of the meetings and consultations we had to do in order to become a recognized club of the AAW.
Joe was a hard-working secretary and you could always count on him to do his job. He coordinated the lodging, sign-ups and check-ins for symposium attendees for several symposiums. While doing this function, he signed up English woodturner John Andrews and ended up housing him for several later symposiums. He introduced John to several of us and we became friends and continued to visit over the years.
Joe and his wife, Pat offered their home and housed many officers and symposium meetings for several years. I was reminded that during these organizational meetings we had at their home Joe would offer a shot of something else to quench your thirst along with a meal they provided. We called these meetings “stuffing parties” as it was when we stuffed envelopes for each of the symposium attendees. Joe was a very serious fellow. He did, however, have a devious humorous side and you never knew if he was pulling your leg or not. I am glad that I have known Joe over these last 25-30 years.
Anyone that would like to write a memory or tribute to Pat please forward it to webmaster@ovwg.org I will add your memory to this page.
