Promoting the art and craft of wood turning in the greater Cincinnati area

Date: 4/11/2024
Subject: Information on Monday’s Wood Processing class
From: John Westrup

Just want to send everyone a note on what exactly we are going to cover in the wood processing class on Monday.

We are excited about the number of members that have signed up and want everybody to learn new abilities while being safe.

We will discuss how and why we cut wood the way we do.

We will address chainsaw safety. Please bring hearing and eye protection. If you have your own chainsaw and want to use it that is fine. Just make sure it is operable.

We will set up 4 different wood cutting stations. They will be 4-5 individuals at each station. Everyone will get a turn to cut a piece of wood but in the meantime can be watching, learning and cleaning up shavings. If after watching others use a chainsaw you feel uncomfortable using a chainsaw, you don’t have to! Safety is our highest priority.

All wood cut can be taken home. We will have someone on the bandsaw to demonstrate taking the cut piece to either a bowl or spindle blank.

We always clean the pit area up after sawing. We hope everyone will help with this part of the class.

If you have any questions, please send me an email.
